Creating better cities together.
Friday September 25, 2026 2:30pm - 3:45pm CEST
This informal conversation invites participants to explore a deeper dimension of city-making and placemaking: the idea that places are not only technical or physical interventions, but expressions of the values, relationships, and assumptions that shape our societies.

At a time when many communities are facing fragmentation, polarization, and ecological challenges, the session asks how placemaking might move beyond creating spaces and toward cultivating belonging, stewardship, and shared responsibility. What if placemakers saw themselves not only as place-makers, but also as place-revealers—learning from the wisdom, relationships, histories, and living systems already present in a place?

The conversation will explore how a deeper sense of responsibility toward one another and the natural world can be woven into the architecture of our places, and how city-making can be understood as a process that shapes not only environments, but also the kinds of human beings and communities we become.

Drawing on insights from the Cities for the Soul podcast season of Design to Connect, the session will be participatory and reflective, inviting attendees to collectively explore how placemaking can nurture more connected, caring, and inclusive forms of belonging that extend beyond our material needs and qualities as humans.
