In search of the invisible community

The session would explore how placemaking can begin with visibility, by uncovering communities that already coexist within the city yet remain largely unseen. Focusing on the Korean diaspora in Wrocław and its suburban extension in Bielany Wrocławskie, the project combined documentary photography, curatorial research, and trust-building practices to map everyday life and meeting spaces of this community. We’d like to present the outcomes of residencies from 2025 and lead this event together with Marilyne Grimmer, this year resident working with Korean community in Wrocław. It is collaboration in frame of Magic Carpets Platform, 2 organisations are involved: WIK from Wrocław and Folkestone Fringe from Folkestone. The session will be created with the local Korean community working with the artist, highlighting the artistic process. It includes presenting participatory mapping and playful public intervention. The idea is to rethink placemaking as a practice of attentive listening and gradual inclusion through participatory arts, where the role of artists and cultural practitioners is to reveal hidden social layers and create meaningful connections.
