Creating better cities together.
Thursday September 24, 2026 4:15pm - 5:30pm CEST
Placemaking and urban regeneration are often seen as naturally inclusive and open to diversity. But we want to do better, making sure that placemaking is genuinely inclusive and serves residents in all their diversity. This session will provide a forum for panellists and participants - local authorities and city officials especially - to gather and build up practice around genuinely inclusive placemaking, to share and work through examples where this has been achieved, and show cities how it can really be done for the benefit of all, to create resilient local communities for all.

Special focus will be on participation - how have cities involved diverse communities in placemaking processes? What tools have they used? How have you reached the most marginalised in society? But we will also think about how placemaking can mark, celebrate and facilitate diversity in the city.

These discussions will contribute to ongoing thematic work by the Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities Programme on inclusive placemaking.
