Care‑Based Networks: How Regional Placemaking Learns, Shares and Sustains Itself

This session explores how regional placemaking networks emerge, evolve, and sustain themselves across different European contexts. Practitioners from Austria, Norway, France, and Germany will share how their networks operate, what challenges they face, and what opportunities arise when practitioners, researchers and public officials collaborate across territories.
We will collectively examine how we learn from each other, how we share knowledge, and how we amplify the impact of our work. Participants will be invited to reflect on what channels can energise our relational fabric: how do we build trust, maintain momentum, and cultivate a culture of openness in networks that are diverse, decentralised and constantly shifting.
The second part of the session will take the form of a collaborative workshop. Together, we will co‑design strategies, tools and actions to strengthen regional processes, identify cross‑national synergies, and support our communities. Inspired by care principles, where participation is voluntary, layered, and self‑determined, we will explore how networks can remain light, inclusive and resilient while distributing responsibilities and benefits fairly.
The goal is to leave with shared insights and practical pathways for nurturing regional placemaking ecosystems that are more connected, more agile, and more capable of shaping just and vibrant urban futures.
