Creating better cities together.
Thursday September 24, 2026 2:30pm - 3:45pm CEST
How do we know if a public space genuinely fosters resilience? It starts in the nervous system. In this hands-on session, we introduce the "Biological Layer" of urban resilience through the lens of neuroarchitecture and environmental psychology.
We begin by explaining the science behind the Wendy Assessment, our framework that measures how spatial design impacts human stress and flourishing across 5 dimensions (physical regulation, mental harmony, autonomy, connection, and meaning).
Then, we move into action. Participants will receive a simplified "Wendy Assessment Lite" toolkit and head outside to map a nearby public space, observing the subconscious biological realities of the environment rather than just its physical assets.
Returning to the room, groups will analyze their data to identify "resilience gaps" (e.g., where cognitive load is too high or autonomy is restricted). Finally, in a rapid design hackathon, each group will prototype a "lighter, faster, cheaper" placemaking intervention specifically designed to down-regulate the nervous system, mitigate those gaps, and build true social resilience in their assessed space.
