About me
Sylvia Kostenzer envisions greener, safer, and more inclusive cities where children can move safely and freely on their own, and where motorised traffic is reduced to a bare minimum. She is a hands-on changemaker, using colourful street markings and large-scale painted streetscapes to reclaim public space. Through playful design, Sylvia has created movement-friendly environments such as an octopus-shaped bike parcours and a schoolyard featuring a life-size blue whale, co-designed with students. Both have become welcoming places for learning, movement, and social interaction.Even with small budgets, these tactical interventions can spark long-term change. They demonstrate how creative, ground-up action can transform everyday urban life, while co-creation builds a sense of ownership, strengthens communities, and empowers people to actively shape their surroundings.
