How to shape a good place – and not f*ck it up
Thursday September 24, 2026 11:45am - 1:00pm CEST
Our four presentations each ask a version of the same question: who does the work of placemaking, what does it mean to move from idea to action, and how do you make sure that the work survives?

Kady Yellow – Downtown Vision, Jacksonville
We open the session with people – and the ideas they have for transforming downtown spaces. Placemaking Jax nurtures resident aspirations with a program that includes an open-call, grants, and Placemaking School.

Aaron Finn & Ben Stutman – The Fitzrovia Partnership / Momentum Transport, London
What happens after a district-scale public realm strategy is developed? The Fitzrovia account sits in the “messy middle” - occupying a transitional space between plan-making and implementation, and challenged by two local authority boundaries.

Andrew Pask – Placemaking Canada
Andrew’s research explores how city-scale placemaking networks offer a means to link local initiatives to create broader, systems-based change. These organizations are an under-discussed opportunity for the broader placemaking movement.

Lisa Taylor – Coherent Cities / Place Collective UK, London & Manchester
What happens when champions move on? How leadership evolves is a critical factor in sustaining vibrant spaces and engaged users. Succession becomes a test of whether a placemaking initiative is durable and lasting.
