The Nightlife Crisis: The Night Is Dead, Long Live The Night?
Friday September 25, 2026 11:45am - 1:00pm CEST
In this age where nightlife venues are disappearing or threatened, where is nightlife going and what role does it play in a chaotic world where democracy is in decline and marginalized groups are facing often violent pushback? This interactive workshop is an open conversation on the challenges facing nightlife in Europe right now. Case studies from the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy and Greece will be presented on key issues such as future-proofing nightlife, queer spaces and safe(r) spaces, and we will try to answer to the bigger question: how can different needs and desires coexist in the city that comes alive from 6 pm to 6 am? Is there a future for nightlife in Europe?

Living Heritage: From Activation to Stewardship
Friday September 25, 2026 2:30pm - 3:45pm CEST
Many heritage places survive physically but become disconnected from everyday life. Some are preserved but underused. Others remain invisible, undocumented, or overlooked.

This session explores how communities can become active stewards of heritage through two complementary approaches.

  1. The first examines the transformation of the Roman salting factories of Algeciras, Spain, from an archaeological site into productive public space, reconnecting heritage with cultural activity, public life, and local identity.
  2. The second presents Eye on Art Atlas, a digital platform that enables residents to identify, map, and protect vulnerable post-war public art through participatory documentation and community engagement.

Together, these projects raise a common question: how can heritage move beyond preservation and become something people actively care for?

Through case studies, discussion, and participatory exercises, attendees will explore practical methods for activating heritage, strengthening local ownership, and building long-term stewardship. The session is aimed at planners, designers, municipalities, community organisations, heritage professionals, and anyone interested in creating stronger connections between people and place

In search of the invisible community
Friday September 25, 2026 4:15pm - 5:30pm CEST
The session would explore how placemaking can begin with visibility, by uncovering communities that already coexist within the city yet remain largely unseen. Focusing on the Korean diaspora in Wrocław and its suburban extension in Bielany Wrocławskie, the project combined documentary photography, curatorial research, and trust-building practices to map everyday life and meeting spaces of this community. We’d like to present the outcomes of residencies from 2025 and lead this event together with Marilyne Grimmer, this year resident working with Korean community in Wrocław. It is collaboration in frame of Magic Carpets Platform, 2 organisations are involved: WIK from Wrocław and Folkestone Fringe from Folkestone. The session will be created with the local Korean community working with the artist, highlighting the artistic process. It includes presenting participatory mapping and playful public intervention. The idea is to rethink placemaking as a practice of attentive listening and gradual inclusion through participatory arts, where the role of artists and cultural practitioners is to reveal hidden social layers and create meaningful connections.
