This session presents the Placemaking Assessment tool, a digital survey built by Placemaking Europe for practitioners evaluating public spaces. The tool can be accessed through:
https://assessment.placemaking-europe.eu/Attendees will see how the tool structures assessment around four dimensions — comfort and image, access and linkages, uses and activities, and sociability — and how it adapts across project stages, from exploring opportunities and planning interventions to testing changes and monitoring outcomes.
The session walks through the full experience: a guided questionnaire combining observational and data-based questions, an automatically generated report of indicator results, tailored recommendations, and comparable case studies tied to each place's weakest indicators. Attendees will leave equipped to take the tool back to their own contexts — contributing to a growing global network of placemaking initiatives sharing knowledge across cities.
Placemaking Assessment is the first of three tools in a broader framework for evaluating placemaking work, followed by Process Assessment and Impact Measurement.
