Hala Targowa, Wroclaw’s iconic central market hall is under pressure. Sales dropped over the years, and many of the services on the second floor have closed down. Meanwhile the market fulfills an important social function, and provides residents and visitors with access to healthy food, local delicacies, flowers and handcrafted goods. In recent years new approaches have been tried successfully, such as the addition of a few renowned specialty coffee bars, and hosting the food festival Gastro Miasto on the waterfront nearby. However more is needed to secure a sustainable future for the market hall. Wroclaw is inviting international placemaking experts to help answer: How can the Market Hall evolve into a more active and diverse local destination while preserving its existing vendors, distinctive character and everyday function? In this workshop you will learn all about the market halls’ current challenges and opportunities, and get to work with renowned experts on market cities. Together we co-create a strategic proposal for the market, including a shared vision, priority actions and a first implementation pathway. Bring your best practices and lessons learned, and leave a positive impact on Wroclaw this Placemaking Week Europe.
